Lovely
Stupid Men regularly perform around town at various clubs and bars. The band plays an eclectic mix of country, rock, pop and reggae and all songs are original. They recorded their first CD at Ho Guom Studios in Hanoi. It was mixed by guitarist/composer Paul Romaine together with young Vietnamese engineer Nguyen Hong Quan. All words are written by vocalist/lyricist Simon Rolph and Paul Romaine.
The video images that accompany the band’s live performances, through
back projection and monitors, originate from collaboration with various
professionals: Canadian artist Brian Ring, English filmmaker Keith Halstead,
Italian filmmaker Gianluca Pipitone and local cameraman Nguyen Ti Duc.
The CD was released with a limited edition DVD, a “two-wheel”
trip around Hanoi, which was edited by German photographer Sebastien Martinez.
The whole package was presented in an aluminum box with texts and drawings
by Simon Rolph rendered on recycled paper. The graphics show objects in
common use in Vietnam. The ‘handmade’ concept was realized
with the invaluable help of craftsmen working in Hanoi’s old quarter.
The Lovely Stupid Men are an independent band. All monies made from performing and sales go straight back into maintaining this ideal. They are currently recording their second CD.
